· Special tactics

Trainers
A training division is only as good as the trainers and TPD has some of the best. These training officers have "Instructor Certification" from some of the most prestigous institutions in the world. They also have a vast library of printed and multi-media course materials to assist their training efforts.
Our firing range is one of the best equipped in the state and includes a computer simulator to sharpen an officer's skills in "real life" situations.
TPD has two full-time instructors at the Law Enforcement Academy at Tuscaloosa.
New Recruits
Each new recruit at TPD goes through an intensive 8 week "in-house" training program before attending the state's APOSTC police academy. TPD has one of the highest graduation rates at the Academy because of the education they receive in-house.
